Gilbert was in complete control of a red-hot Mets lineup, needing just 92 pitches (60 strikes) to navigate seven stellar frames. He scattered three singles and one walk as New York was never really able to mount much of a threat against him. He’s reeled off a pair of really strong starts against NL East opponents after struggling in a pair of outings to close out the month of July. He’ll bring a strong 2.91 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 149/27 K/BB ratio across 154 2/3 innings (24 starts) into a road tilt on Friday against the Pirates and their rookie sensation Paul Skenes.

There’s been nothing from Hill since the move to DFA him about whether he’ll try to find another team right away. He made just four appearances for Boston and allowed two runs in 3 2/3 innings.

Bickford can opt for free agency if he’d like. He was DFA’d on Saturday after giving up eight earned runs in 8 1/3 innings for the Yankees.

Aaron Boone was very short on specifics on how exactly he intends to integrate Domínguez, although expectations are that Alex Verdugo will typically draw the short straw. Tonight, thought, Stanton is getting a rest, with Aaron Judge DHing and Verdugo in left field. Stanton is currently in a 1-for-19 slump.

Moncada, out since April with an adductor strain, has appeared in eight games for Charlotte, five of them at third base, and gone 9-for-26 with a homer and three doubles. Still, there doesn’t really seem to be much desire on either side to have him back in the White Sox lineup in advance of the inevitable divorce this offseason.

There was hope yesterday that he’d be back tonight, but it wasn’t to be. Chris Taylor is playing left field against the Cubs.

Santana is leading off tonight against the Angels. It’s the third time in the last five games that he’s done so against a left-hander. Before that, he hadn’t led off in a game since 2018.

Blackburn apparently intended to pitch through the soreness until that happened. He was expected to return from a right hand contusion to start tonight against the Blue Jays, but he’s going to remain on the IL for now. Tylor Megill is starting in his place.

Realmuto was hopeful of playing during the current three-game series against the Rays, but he’s still dealing with fluid in his knee. Garrett Stubbs is starting in his place tonight.

Allard seemed to be the likely choice with both Tyler Phillips and Seth Johnson flopping in their auditions. Allard has a 3.50 ERA in three starts and one relief appearance for the Phillies this season. He could finish out the year in the rotation.

The Orioles would prefer to time Holliday’s off days against lefties, but they’re in the midst of a long string of games against righties at the moment. Liván Soto is getting the start at second. He’s served two stints with the Orioles, but it only now about to get his first at-bat with the team.
