Angels manager Ron Washington told reporters Luis Rengifo (hamstring) will “back off” for a few days to be cautious.
Washington acknowledged that Rengifo is already behind this spring and said the team doesn’t want to push him. The Angels are exercising caution when it comes to the 28-year-old infielder. Rengifo’s status for Opening Day is up in the air given he now has just a few weeks to catch up and it’s unclear when he’ll return to baseball activities.

Nick Anderson has announced his retirement from professional baseball.
The 35-year-old hurler had been pitching very well at Triple-A Las Vegas for the A’s, posting a 2.16 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and a 16/5 K/BB ratio across 16 2/3 innings. If this is indeed the end for Anderson, he finishes his big league career with a 3.43 ERA and 10 saves over 173 innings in six seasons between the Marlins, Rays, Braves, Royals and Rockies. Best of luck to the right-hander in his future endeavors.

  • STL Relief Pitcher #49
Cardinals optioned RHP Matt Svanson to Triple-A Memphis.
The Cardinals needed to clear a spot on their active roster for the arrival of Brycen Mautz on Sunday and it looks like Svanson was the odd man out this time around. The 27-year-old right-hander has struggled to an 8.77 ERA, 1.95 WHIP and a 26/15 K/BB ratio over 25 2/3 innings with the Cardinals this season. He’ll see if he can reclaim his form at the Triple-A level.
  • CLE Relief Pitcher #41
Guardians designated RHP Peyton Pallette for assignment.
Pallette navigated a scoreless inning for the Guardians on Saturday, but did so while issuing three free passes and that appears to have been the final straw. The Rule 5 pick will head back to the White Sox if he passes through waivers unclaimed.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #26
Guardians recalled LHP Logan Allen from Triple-A Columbus.
Allen has been pitching as a starter at the Triple-A level, posting an uninspiring 5.45 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and a 43/19 K/BB ratio across 38 innings through his first eight starts. He’ll give the Guardians’ bullpen another option that’s capable of working multiple innings. Peyton Pallette was designated for assignment in a corresponding move on Sunday.
  • TB Center Fielder #25
Rays recalled OF Victor Mesa Jr. from Triple-A Durham.
With Jonny DeLuca (hamstring) landing on the 10-day injured list on Sunday, Mesa will have an opportunity to show the Rays what he can do. He was sizzling at the dish at the Triple-A level, slashing .318/.416/.545 with a pair of homers and seven RBI through 77 plate appearances.
  • TB Right Fielder #21
Rays placed OF Jonny DeLuca on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 23, with a right hamstring strain.
As anticipated, DeLuca lands on the injured list after suffering a hamstring injury during Friday’s contest against the Yankees. The severity of the strain — and how much time he may miss — are not yet known. Victor Mesa Jr. was recalled from Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move to take his place on the Rays’ roster.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #51
Drew Sommers will serve as the Tigers’ 27th man for Sunday’s doubleheader against the Orioles.
The 25-year-old left-hander has made 16 appearances at the Triple-A level this season, registering a 3.10 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and a 33/11 K/BB ratio. He’ll add a fresh arm to the Tigers’ bullpen for Sunday’s twin bill against the O’s.
  • DET Relief Pitcher #57
Tigers recalled RHP Ricky Vanasco from Triple-A Toledo.
The 27-year-old right-hander has really struggled in four appearances with the Tigers this season, posting a 14.54 ERA and 3.23 WHIP across 4 1/3 innings. He’ll function in a middle relief role for the Tigers and can be ignored for fantasy purposes.
  • DET Relief Pitcher #48
Tigers placed LHP Brant Hurter on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 23, with lumbar spine inflammation.
Hurter suffered the injury during Friday’s outing against the Orioles when he slipped and fell during his delivery due to wet conditions on the field. It’s unclear how long he’ll be shelved for. Ricky Vanasco was recalled from Triple-A Toledo to take his place in the Tigers’ bullpen.
  • STL Starting Pitcher #52
Cardinals recalled LHP Brycen Mautz from Triple-A Memphis.
The 24-year-old left-hander will make his Major League debut on Sunday against the Reds. Matuz has been terrific at Triple-A Memphis this season, registering a 2.90 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and a 43/24 K/BB ratio over 40 1/3 innings through his first nine starts. He has had trouble with his command at times this season, an issue which could get him in trouble against the Reds on Sunday, making him a volatile streaming option for fantasy purposes.
