Justin Verlander was let down by his bullpen once again on Thursday, giving up two runs on five hits over 6 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Rockies.
The 42-year-old hurler walked one and struck out four in the ballgame. He allowed an RBI single to Brenton Doyle in the third inning and then served up a solo homer to Ryan McMahon before exiting in the seventh. He exited with a 3-2 lead and in line for his first victory of the season once again, but the Giants’ bullpen couldn’t hang on for him. He got 11 swings and misses on 85 pitches on the night — six on his fastball — while posting a CSW of 28 percent. He’ll bring a 4.38 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and a 32/13 K/BB ratio (37 innings) into Tuesday’s battle against the Cubs in Chicago.
