Mariners sent RHP Sauryn Lao outright to Triple-A Tacoma.
The 25-year-old right-hander had been designated for assignment earlier in the week. He passed through waivers unclaimed and will continue to function as extra bullpen depth for the Mariners.

Ryan Bergert left Tuesday’s start against the Nationals after being struck by a line drive.
Bergert was struck by a 103.3 mph line drive, which deflected off his right elbow before hitting him in the side. The 25-year-old appeared to be in a great deal of pain while leaving the contest in the fourth inning. He was charged with three runs over three innings before exiting. There should be an update on his status following the game.
Rutschman to be sidelined through All-Star break
Eric Samulski discusses Adley Rutschman suffering an oblique injury that will keep him out through the All-Star break, sharing why fantasy baseball managers should consider dropping Rutschman and picking up Gary Sanchez.

Pirates manager Don Kelly told reporters Oneil Cruz was removed from Tuesday’s game against the Brewers for a lack of energy and effort.
Kelly declined to say whether Cruz would be back in the lineup for Wednesday’s contest. Clearly, he’s trying to send a message after the 26-year-old displayed a lack of hustle when he hit into a double play in his final at-bat of the contest. The only positive here for fantasy managers is that his early exit wasn’t injury-related.

Sam Haggerty came off the bench to steal three bases and plate the go-ahead in the 10th as the Rangers edged the Orioles 6-5 on Tuesday.
Haggerty stole second and third after walking as a pinch-hitter in the eighth. The go-ahead run came on Haggerty’s chopper to second base. Gary Sánchez caught the relay in plenty of time and held on to the ball for once. He got the out call initially, but replay showed that Evan Carter clearly scored ahead of the tag. Haggerty then stole second before the inning ended. He’s a career 41-for-46 stealing bases in essentially one full year’s worth of plate appearances (587). Unfortunately, that one full year of plate appearances has come spread out over seven major league seasons.

Although he took a no-hitter into the seventh, Jacob Latz ended up being charged with two runs in six-plus innings in a no-decision Tuesday against the Orioles.
Latz was in the pen 10 days ago before suddenly being extended to throw 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball as a bulk guy last time out against the Royals. He started tonight and got through six hitless with two walks before giving up a single to Ramón Laureano and a walk to open the seventh. He was lifted then in favor of Chris Martin, who proceeded to give up homers to three consecutive batters to blow a 4-0 lead. Latz finished with four strikeouts and 11 whiffs. Although he allowed seven hard-hit balls, five of them in excess of 103 mph, it was a 74-mph grounder up the middle that ended the no-hitter. We wouldn’t recommend picking up Latz, but this has been quite an impressive run. He’s not necessarily due to make another start with Nathan Eovaldi coming back, but the Rangers could certainly make room for him if they wanted to.

Robert García worked a perfect 10th with a one-run lead for his sixth save Tuesday against the Orioles.
García took a cheap blown save Saturday against the White Sox, but he’s pretty clearly the closer in Texas right now. The outing tonight dragged his ERA back until 3.00 to 2.97.
  • BAL Starting Pitcher #50
Charlie Morton yielded three runs in five innings Tuesday in a no-decision against the Rangers.
Morton left down 3-0 before the Orioles’ comeback in the seventh. The runs came in the fourth and were all earned, though it would have been a scoreless frame on better defense. Gary Sánchez botched a play at home plate that could have been the first out, and then with runners and second and third, the Orioles got no outs on an easy grounder to Gunnar Henderson, who made an awful throw home on a fielder’s choice. Morton allowed just one hit outside of the fourth. He’ll almost certainly face the Rangers again next time out, but it could be at any point in next week’s series that runs from Monday to Wednesday.
  • BAL 3rd Baseman #16
Coby Mayo went 0-for-3 before being lifted from Tuesday’s game against the Rangers.
It appeared that the Orioles pulled him for defense, as he’s still learning the finer points of playing first base. Mayo is 10-for-47 with no homers and four doubles in 15 games since being recalled from Triple-A on May 31. One can still dream of him offering mixed-league value at some point during the second half, but it’s not happening right now.
  • MIL Shortstop #3
Joey Ortiz homered twice and drove in four runs on Tuesday, propelling the Brewers to a 9-3 victory over the visiting Pirates.
It’s the first career multi-homer game for the 26-year-old infielder. Ortiz opened the scoring in the ballgame as he ambushed a first-pitch fastball from Andrew Heaney for a 397-foot (104.6 mph EV) two-run blast in the third inning. He then belted a 1-2 changeup from Heaney for a 398-foot (102.4 mph EV) solo shot in the fourth that extended the Brewers’ lead to 6-0. He also plated a run with a fielder’s choice in the eighth inning. On the season, Ortiz is now slashing .217/.275/.297 with four long balls and 18 RBI on the season.
  • MIL 2nd Baseman #21
Caleb Durbin went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer and a pair of runs scored as the Brewers triumphed over the Pirates on Tuesday evening in Milwaukee.
Durbin smacked a one-out single off of Andrew Heaney in the third inning and on the very next pitch rode home on a two-run blast by Joey Ortiz. Durbin then clobbered a 387-foot (103.8 mph EV) three-run shot in the fourth inning that made it a 5-0 ballgame. With his two-hit attack, the 25-year-old rookie infielder is now slashing .236/.320/.351 with four homers, 29 RBI and six stolen bases on the year.
  • MIL Right Fielder #10
Sal Frelick went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base on Tuesday evening in a lopsided victory over the Pirates.
Frelick capped off the scoring in the ballgame with an RBI single in the eighth inning that made it a 9-3 ballgame. He then deftly swiped second base before being stranded there. With his two-hit night, the 25-year-old outfielder it hitting a healthy .295/.352/.391with four home runs, 31 RBI and 15 stolen bases.
