Ryan Walker rebounded from Tuesday’s poor showing to pitch a scoreless ninth with a two-run lead Wednesday versus the Cubs.
Walker didn’t blow a save last night, but he might as well have in giving up two runs in the ninth (Erik Miller replaced him and got the blown save for allowing one of Walker’s runners to score). Despite that, the Giants went with their typical arrangement today, and Camilo Doval, Tyler Rogers and Walker turned in scoreless seventh, eighth and ninth innings respectively. Walker’s perfect frame came without a strikeout. His K rate currently stands at 25%, well down from last year’s mark of 32%.

Teoscar Hernández homered and walked in a loss Friday to the Giants.
Casparius may get good ratios as Dodgers starter
Eric Samulski analyzes the Dodgers moving Ben Casparius into the starting rotations and what he will bring to fantasy managers in his new role.

William Contreras drove in a pair of runs in a win over the Cardinals on Friday.

Erick Fedde allowed three runs over 5 1/3 innings to take a loss to the Brewers on Friday.

Trevor Megill picked up a save despite allowing a run against the Cardinals on Friday over an inning of work.
Megill was handed a 3-1 lead in the ninth, so fortunately the run didn’t cause a blown save. It did cause his ERA to rise to 3.06, but fantasy managers will accept that number as long as the saves keep coming. He’s now up to 14 on the season, and two strikeouts during Friday’s effort raise his K/BB ratio to 26/12. That’s far from dominant, but effective enough.
  • MIL Starting Pitcher #51
Freddy Peralta held the Cardinals to just one run over six innings to get a win for the Brewers on Friday.
Peralta was excellent again Friday, and that gives him 12 innings of one-run baseball over his last two starts. He scattered four hits, and issued just one walk while throwing 56-of-93 pitches for strikes. The 29-year-old now has an outstanding 2.60 ERA on the season, and it’s accompanied by a 84/32 K/BB ratio over his 83 innings. Peralta’s next matchup is scheduled for Thursday in Chicago against the Cubs.

According to Elijah Evans of Just Baseball, the White Sox plan to promote left-handed pitching prospect Noah Schultz to Triple-A Charlotte.
The 21-year-old southpaw made 12 starts at Double-A Birmingham, going 4-3 with a 3.34 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 58 strikeouts over 56 2/3 innings. He’s now just one step away from the big leagues. Given their alternative options and the fact that it’s another lost season for the White Sox, it would be surprising if Schultz didn’t get a start or two in the big leagues before the season is through.
  • NYM Starting Pitcher #34
The Mets announced on Friday that right-hander Kodai Senga is dealing with a Grade 1 right hamstring strain.
All things considered, that’s the best possible news that the Mets could have heard following Senga’s evaluation. He’ll rest for a couple of weeks before being reassessed. It sounds like if everything goes according to plan, he should be able to rejoin the Mets’ rotation before the All-Star break.

Trevor Richards has elected free agency.
The 32-year-old right-hander had been designated for assignment by the Royals earlier in the week. After passing through waivers unclaimed, he refused an outright assignment to Triple-A Omaha and will peddle his wares on the open market instead. Richards posted a 12.00 ERA, 3.00 WHIP and a 2/2 K/BB ratio in three innings with the Royals this season.
  • TEX Left Fielder #32
Rangers’ manager Bruce Bochy said after Friday’s game that he didn’t believe Evan Carter’s ankle injury is anything serious.
Bochy elaborated, “It’s just a little sore. We don’t think it’s serious or anything. He could play tomorrow. We’ll see. But more likely, he’ll get a day off to see if we can get that calmed down.” It sounds like unless Carter wakes up feeling significantly worse on Saturday that he’s not going to be heading for any additional testing and should be able to return to action before the weekend is through.
  • TEX 3rd Baseman #8
Josh Smith went 2-for-3 with a homer and a walk and scored all three runs as the Rangers beat the White Sox 3-1.
Smith hit a 396-foot blast off Adrian Houser in the third for his seventh homer of the year. He also scored on a Corey Seager sac fly and a Marcus Semien double. Smith has 11 hits in his last five games, raising his OPS from .729 to .786.
