Mick Abel was lit up for six runs — five earned — in one-plus innings of relief work by the Padres on Saturday.
The Twins were hoping to get through this game just using Taj Bradley and Abel, with maybe someone closing afterwards, but while Bradley did well over the first five, Abel gave up two runs in the sixth and then retired no one in the seventh. He allowed seven hits, all of them singles, and walked one. Abel also got roughed up in his Twins debut as a starter last week, so he could be a candidate for demotion.
