CJ Abrams was lifted from Saturday’s game against the Mets in the 11th inning.
No Nationals writer chimed in after the game, so we’re assuming this was punishment, rather than an injury. Abrams, serving as the automatic runner, took off for third on a grounder to the left side to begin the top of the 11th and was easily retired on a tag play. For some reason, that’s the one overly aggressive baserunning move that seems to lead to most consternation from baseball people than any other. It was a bad play on Abrams’ part, but it just meant the Nationals lost a base, rather than an out, since the batter reached first. It ended up irrelevant after Daylen Lile’s inside-the-park homer, but the Nationals still replaced Abrams for the bottom of the inning.
