Michael Wacha allowed six runs in five innings and took the loss against the Blue Jays on Sunday.
Wacha gave up eight hits, walked one and struck out four. The 34-year-old right-hander has allowed 13 runs in his last two starts combined. Wacha has seen his ERA rise to 4.00 and has a 121/42 K/BB ratio in 166 2/3 innings this year. Wacha is lined up to face the Athletics on the road next weekend.

The Angels are acquiring Vaughn Grissom from the Red Sox, sources told ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
Outfield Isaiah Jackson, an eighth-round pick in the 2025 draft, is the return, according to MassLive.com’s Chris Cotillo. Grissom is out of options and the Red Sox were going to need to open a couple of more 40-man roster spots, so a trade here seemed like a lock. Grissom didn’t appear in the majors last season and finished at .270/.342/.441 in 96 games for Triple-A Worcester. His contact ability still might allow him to resemble an adequate regular if he can stay healthy, but it’s been a challenge lately. He figures to battle Christian Moore and Kyren Paris for the starting job at second in Anaheim, with Moore perhaps sliding to third if both he and Grissom impress.
What Williams' deal means for Mets' bullpen plans
Eric Samulski unpacks the reports of Devin Williams signing a three-year deal for the New York Mets and how it impacts his fantasy stock, along with the team's bullpen plans.

The Dodgers are bringing in Rocco Baldelli as a special assistant to Andrew Friedman.
Baldelli will return to front office work after seven years managing the Twins. He also spent time as a special assistant with the Rays before moving into coaching. It wouldn’t be a surprise if this is a brief stop for Baldelli, as he figures to be a candidate for more managerial jobs going forward.
  • FA Designated Hitter #12
The Pirates’ offer for Kyle Schwaber was for $125 million over four years, a source told MLB.com’s Alex Stumpf.
That’s a slightly higher annual salary than Schwarber is getting on his five-year, $150 million deal to stay with Philadelphia. Still, even if the Pirates had added a fifth year, they probably didn’t have much of a chance here with the Phillies willing to make such a big commitment. The question now is whether they’ll offer similar dollars to another free agent. Their best route, though, might be to dip into their pitching to acquire Ketel Marte and then use what funds they have left to reinforce their rotation.
  • BOS Center Fielder #16
Manager Benji Gil said both Randy Arozarena and Jarren Duran will be a part of Team Mexico for the WBC.
Arozarena went 9-for-20 with a homer and nine RBI in the 2023 WBC. Duran played behind Alek Thomas in center and finished 0-for-5. He’ll of course be a starter this time. In 2023, the other outfield spot went to Alex Verdugo, so a change is probably coming there. Perhaps young Rangers outfielder Alejandro Osuna could join the mix.
  • BOS Starting Pitcher
Red Sox signed LHP Alec Gamboa to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
He’ll make $925,000 if he’s in the majors. Gamboa, 28, was the Dodgers’ ninth-round pick in 2019 and pitched in their farm system until last May, when he made his way to Korea. He wound up 7-8 with a 3.58 ERA and a 117/49 K/BB in 108 innings over 19 starts with Lotte. He’s always been able to generate groundballs, and he could prove to be of some use in middle relief.
  • HOU 3rd Baseman #1
Manager Carlos Beltrán said he expects Carlos Correa to play for Team Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic.
With Francisco Lindor at short, Correa was going to give third base a try in the 2023 WBC, only to drop out due to the upcoming birth of his child. Now that Correa is, in fact, a third baseman, it’s an easier fit. Beltrán also confirmed that Riley Greene, Nolan Arenado and George Springer have been invited to play for Team Puerto Rico. Arenado played for Team USA in 2017 and ’23, but he’s expected to switch it up this time.
  • MIL Catcher #24
According to Team Venezuela’s manager, William Contreras has resumed workouts after undergoing finger surgery and might be able to play in the World Baseball Classic.
One would think the younger Contreras would be Venezuela’s catcher of choice, though that is the team’s deepest position; Salvaldor Perez has been the mainstay for the club, and the country has also produced Gabriel Moreno, Francisco Alvarez, Carlos Narváez and Freddy Fermin. Neither Contreras brother played for the team last time around in 2023. Willson could be the team’s best choice at first if he wants to play this time.
  • LAD 1st Baseman #5
Freddie Freeman wants to play for Team Canada in the WBC but is dealing with “a little bit of a health issue,” said Canada GM Greg Hamilton.
It’ll be interesting to hear what this is about. Freeman played for Canada in the 2017 and ’23 WBCs, going a combined 4-for-21 in six games.
  • NYM Relief Pitcher #38
According to the New York Post’s Joel Sherman, the Mets offered Edwin Díaz a three-year, $66 million contract with “modest deferrals” before he signed on with the Dodgers.
Díaz reportedly got $69 million over three years from the Dodgers. His exit means that Devin Williams, who signed a three-year, $51 million deal with deferrals that brought its value down to about $45 million, probably will be the Mets’ closer. Perhaps there’s still some chance the team could sign Robert Suarez to pitch the ninth.
  • ARI General Manager
The Diamondbacks are hiring Pirates director of pitching development Jeremy Bleich as an assistant GM.
That seems like a big loss for the Pirates, as pitching development is the one thing they’ve done fairly well of late. Bleich immediately joined the Pirates after retiring in 2019. The 38-year-old was the 44th overall pick in the 2008 draft, taken by the Yankees out of Stanford. He very briefly made the majors in 2018, only to give up two runs in one-third of an inning in his lone appearance for the A’s.
