Trey Yesavage surrendered five runs over four innings in Monday’s blowout Game 2 loss to the Mariners.
Yesavage somehow managed to keep Toronto in the ballgame after a rocky 33-pitch opening frame where he served up a three-run homer to Mariners superstar Julio Rodríguez. The 22-year-old rookie sensation wasn’t particularly sharp as he notched only four strikeouts and handed out three free passes. The Blue Jays stuck with him even as he experienced declining fastball velocity into the middle innings. He was finally lifted after 70 pitches in the fifth and was ultimately charged with two additional runs after reliever Louis Varland coughed up a go-ahead blast to Jorge Polanco. It seems likely the Blue Jsys will try to save him for the later stages of the series, but it’s easy to envision Yesavage pitching in relief in a must-win scenario for Toronto after dropping the first two games of the best-of-seven series.

The Mariners and free agent Josh Naylor are finalizing a new five-year contract, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
The Mariners made it clear that re-signing Naylor was their priority after he starred in the postseason by batting .340 with three homers in 12 games. During the regular season, he hit .299/.341/.490 in 54 games after being acquired from the Diamondbacks and .295/.353/.462 with 20 homers, 92 RBI and a stunning 30 steals overall.
Should Judge have won AL MVP over Raleigh?
Dan Patrick breaks down Aaron Judge winning American League MVP over Cal Raleigh, discussing if the Yankees outfielder should have won over the Mariners catcher.
  • PIT Shortstop #34
Pirates infielder Cam Devanney is signing with the Hanshin Tigers of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball, reports Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Nothing official yet. Devanney appears poised to take his talents overseas to Japan after appearing in 14 games last season for the Pirates in his first taste of the majors, batting .139 (5-for-36) with one RBI during that brief cup of coffee. The 28-year-old infielder came over from the Royals in the Adam Frazier trade back in mid-July and posted some encouraging numbers at the Triple-A level, batting .266/.353/.493 with 20 home runs and five steals in 103 games. His departure will free up a spot on Pittsburgh’s 40-man roster ahead of Tuesday’s Rule 5 deadline.
  • FA Starting Pitcher #85
Dustin May (elbow) told reporters that he’s “fully back to normal” and that his balky right elbow feels great.
The 28-year-old hurler finished the season on the injured list due to right elbow neuritis, though he would have been ready to pitch had the Red Sox advanced to the ALDS. May struggled in six appearances with the Red Sox after a deadline deal from the Dodgers, posting a 5.40 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and a 26/13 K/BB ratio across 28 1/3 innings. It’ll be fascinating to see how his market develops this winter, as May wind up being a fallback option for teams that aren’t able to acquire the upper echelon starting pitching options that they covet.
  • Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports that the Orioles have hired Miguel Cairo to be their next infield coach.
The 51-year-old finished the 2025 season as the interim manager of the Nationals after Dave Martinez was fired in early July. He had been serving as their bench coach before then — a position that he had held since November of 2023. Cairo brings plenty of experience for first-time skipper Craig Albernaz to draw from during his first season at the helm of the O’s.
  • WSH Starting Pitcher #70
Nationals signed RHP Eddy Yean to a minor league contract.
The 24-year-old right-hander spent the 2025 campaign in the Pirates’ organization where he compiled a 3.06 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and a 54/45 K/BB ratio over 70 2/3 innings in 50 appearances. He’ll add bullpen depth in the upper minors for the Nationals.
  • FA Relief Pitcher #26
According to independent journalist Francys Romero, the Blue Jays are among the teams that have expressed interest in free agent right-hander Raisel Iglesias.
It’s no secret that the Blue Jays want to bolster the back end of their bullpen after Jeff Hoffman’s blown save in Game 7 of the World Series against the Dodgers. Igelsias has long been considered among the elite closers in the game and while he had a brutal first half in 2025, he posted a brilliant 0.34 ERA, 0.64 WHIP and a 27/6 K/BB ratio over 26 2/3 innings in his final 27 appearances on the season. He’ll be one of the most sought after bullpen arms on the free agent market this winter.
  • FA 2nd Baseman #8
Kiké Hernández underwent left elbow surgery.
It was always a possibility after Hernández dealt with a lingering elbow issue throughout the summer after suffering the injury in May. The 34-year-old free agent revealed that he underwent surgery earlier this week to address a broken bone in his elbow and won’t be ready in time to play for Team Puerto Rico in the upcoming World Baseball Classic. He’s unlikely to make an impact for fantasy purposes at this advanced stage of his career, but his postseason savvy makes him an ideal role player for a contender.
  • TOR Relief Pitcher #52
Blue Jays sent RHP Nick Sandlin outright to Triple-A Buffalo.
Sandlin passed through waivers unclaimed after being jettisoned from Toronto’s 40-man roster and has been effectively been non-tendered after making just 19 relief appearances this past season in his Blue Jays debut. The 28-year-old missed most of the season with shoulder and elbow issues. He made 209 appearances for the Guardians over a four-year span from 2021-2024 before his inclusion in the Andrés Giménez trade last offseason. There’s probably another organization willing to bring him to camp given his extensive experience in the big leagues.
  • ATH 1st Baseman #84
Athletics signed 1B Joey Meneses to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
The Athletics are one of the few organizations with an overabundance of first base and DH options heading into next season with the emergence of AL Rookie of the Year Nick Kurtz and veteran slugger Brent Rooker occupying the full-time DH role. Meneses didn’t appear in the big leagues last year but was an everyday regular for the Nationals from 2022-2024, hitting .274/.322/.408 with 29 homers and three steals in 286 contests during that span.
  • CIN Relief Pitcher #70
Reds re-signed RHP Tejay Antone to a minor league contract.
A little under a week after electing free agency, Antone is back with the organization he’s been with since 2014. The 31-year-old was once among the better relief prospects in baseball and looked like he was on his way to becoming a closer, but injuries have derailed his career with only nine MLB appearances since 2021. He’ll get a chance to win a spot in the Reds’ bullpen this spring.
