Trae Young recorded a monster double-double on Friday with 27 points (7-for-14 FGs, 12-for-14 FTs), three rebounds, 20 assists, four steals, one 3-pointer and nine turnovers in a 136-131 overtime win over the 76ers.
Young set a new career-high for dimes in this game, even though it wasn’t enough for them to get a win. Despite the loss, they locked up the 8-seed in the East, because Toronto lost to Boston. That means Young, and plenty of other rotation players, will likely sit out against Boston on Sunday. Trae was one of seven Hawks to score in double figures, as Saddiq Bey and Onyeka Okongwu joined the entire starting unit in scoring at least 10 points. Jalen Johnson also posted a 6/5/4/3/2 line off the bench. Johnson and A.J. Griffin should play large roles on Sunday, along with the bench players that don’t usually play at all.
