  • CHI Point Guard #2
Lonzo Ball (left knee surgery) said during Bulls’ media day on Monday that he hopes to be medically cleared to play by opening night.
Ball has not played in an NBA game since 2022, and there have been no expectations regarding his return to action this season. However, the Bulls point guard was cleared for 5-on-5 action in August and said on Monday that his knee is feeling good. Ball is attempting to return from a procedure that included a meniscus transplant and a graft to replace the damaged cartilage in his knee. There will be restrictions for him to deal with if cleared to play in games, which essentially takes him off the table in most fantasy leagues. But Ball playing would create a crowded backcourt, with Josh Giddey being acquired this summer and Coby White coming off of a career year. Giddey (ankle) has not been cleared to practice and could miss the start of the regular season.
  • DAL Shooting Guard #5
Quentin Grimes finished Thursday’s exhibition against the Jazz with five points (2-of-5 FGs), three rebounds, one assist, and one 3-pointer in 12 minutes.
  • DAL Center #2
Dereck Lively II shot 2-of-4 from the field in Thursday’s exhibition against the Jazz, tallying four points, three rebounds, one assist, and two blocks in 18 minutes.
  • DAL Shooting Guard #31
Klay Thompson shot 3-of-9 from the field and 1-of-2 from the foul line in Thursday’s exhibition against the Jazz, scoring 10 points with three assists and three 3-pointers in 18 minutes.
  • DAL Point Guard #11
Kyrie Irving logged 17 minutes in Thursday’s exhibition against the Jazz, finishing with 12 points (6-of-11 FGs), four rebounds, and one assist.
  • UTA Power Forward #20
John Collins accounted for 14 points (5-of-11 FGs, 4-of-7 FTs), seven rebounds, four assists, one steal, and one blocked shot in 20 minutes in Thursday’s win over Dallas.
  • UTA Point Guard #00
Jordan Clarkson finished Thursday’s exhibition against the Mavericks with 13 points (5-of-10 FGs, 2-of-3 FTs), four rebounds, two assists, one steal, one block, and one 3-pointer in 22 minutes.
  • UTA Power Forward #23
Lauri Markkanen played 29 minutes in Thursday’s exhibition against the Mavericks, tallying 26 points (9-of-19 FGs, 4-of-5 FTs), seven rebounds, one assist, and four 3-pointers.
  • LAL Shooting Guard #4
Dalton Knecht shot 5-of-16 from the field and 1-of-2 from the foul line in Thursday’s exhibition against the Bucks, scoring 13 points with eight rebounds, four assists, one steal, and two 3-pointers in 34 minutes.
Knecht certainly isn’t shy about getting up shots, which is unsurprising given his marquee role in Tennessee’s offense last season. The first-round pick put up 16 shots on Thursday, and while the accuracy wasn’t there, the Lakers had to be pleased with the aggression shown. At this point, Knecht is a better option for dynasty leagues than redrafts. However, there may be times when he has streaming value.
  • LAL Small Forward #23
LeBron James amassed 11 points (4-of-11 FGs, 1-of-2 FTs), six rebounds, four assists, and two 3-pointers in 16 minutes in Thursday’s exhibition against the Bucks.
The Lakers are taking a measured approach with James during the preseason, understandable given the future Hall of Fame forward’s age. LeBron will be 40 in December, placing a glass ceiling on his value in fantasy drafts, with most waiting until the third round to select him. But, as was the case last season, James remains capable of exceeding that expectation.
  • LAL Small Forward #28
Rui Hachimura finished Thursday’s exhibition win over Milwaukee with 14 points (6-of-12 FGs, 0-of-1 FTs), five rebounds, one assist, two steals, and two 3-pointers in 24 minutes.
Hachimura has looked good during the preseason, with the offensive production increasing in each of the Lakers’ first three games. With Lakers coach JJ Redick revealing his starting lineup, which includes Hachimura, before training camp began, the 2019 first-round pick is worth a look as a late-round pick in most fantasy leagues.
