WR Notes: Justin Jefferson needs to average 126 yards over the next three weeks to become the first 2,000-yard receiver in NFL history. He’s currently on pace for 1,971. … In something of a slump by his Dolphins standards, Tyreek Hill has cleared 100 yards just one time in his past five games. Of course, he has scored in three straight. The Packers limit enemy receiver production, but Hill’s floor has remained high even as his ceiling has been missing. … Ja’Marr Chase has corralled at least seven balls all three weeks since his return. He’s caught fewer than seven passes just three times in 10 2022 appearances. … In another Josh McDaniels-induced slump, Davante Adams has a get-right spot in the Steelers as long as the weather doesn’t go Full Cleveland in Pittsburgh. … Stefon Diggs would have a strong claim to WR2 overall status were the forecasted weather not so poor in Chicago. As it is, Josh Allen‘s bazooka-arm has already cut through stiff winds multiple times this season. There is no need to plunge Diggs out of the top 12.
With Tyler Lockett (finger) sidelined, DK Metcalf‘s floor gets that much higher. He’s averaging eight catches in four games since the Seahawks’ bye. The Chiefs permit the fifth most WR fantasy points. Fill-in No. 2 Marquise Goodwin has boom/bust WR4 appeal in a game where the Seahawks are going to have to throw to have any shot at keeping up with the Chiefs. … Fantasy managers do not have to pull the plug on A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith in Jalen Hurts’ (shoulder) absence, though Dallas Goedert‘s return is worth noting, especially for Smith. He competes for a lot of the same looks as Smith, while backup QB Gardner Minshew found Goedert for 100-plus yards in a 2021 fill-in date. The matchup is also fiendish in the Cowboys. … Coming off his second most prolific game of the season, CeeDee Lamb has a tough matchup in the Eagles. … Averaging 9/89 over the past two weeks, Keenan Allen has yet again become too big to fail in Justin Herbert‘s offense. … Jaylen Waddle finally re-emerged for a big play against the Bills. We can like his repeat odds in the highest-totaled game of the week, one that will be played far away from the bomb cyclone and polar vortex plaguing the middle of the country.
Tee Higgins’ ceiling hasn’t been intact since he tweaked his hamstring, but he avoided setbacks in Week 15. He was upgraded to full practice on Wednesday. It might finally be time to spike a week. … Mike Williams has 10 grabs for 185 yards and a score in two games since returning. Nick Foles’ insertion under center for the Colts means they might actually score some points and force the Chargers to take a few shots down the field. … Chris Godwin has caught fewer than six balls one time since Week 1. He is averaging a putrid 9.7 yards per catch and has managed only three scores, but that Keenan Allen-ian floor keeps him WR1 adjacent. … Zach Wilson finally threw to Garrett Wilson against the Lions. The Jaguars are a tougher test but only marginally. If you are trying to win a trophy, Wilson’s upside is a WR2 bet worth making ... is what I wrote before the weather report got even worse. Wilson has devolved to true boom/bust WR2 status. … With the Chiefs pushed over the past two weeks, JuJu Smith-Schuster woke up for 19/162/1. Smith-Schuster’s floor has generally been that of a WR2 when healthy. … Can DeAndre Hopkins overcome Trace McSorley under center? Hopkins is a strict floor bet for the fantasy semifinals.
Electric first-round rookie Jahan Dotson is finally making some big plays for the Commanders. Nice, though Terry McLaurin has gone 14/175/1 in the process. The 49ers are no one’s idea of a plus matchup for Taylor Heinicke, but he will at least funnel WR2-level targets McLaurin’s way. Dotson has earned boom/bust WR4 treatment. … Impressive though Zay Jones’ recent run has been as Trevor Lawrence has leveled up, Christian Kirk retains decisive season-long advantages, including in target share and air yards share. Jones has forced his way into the high-end WR3 mix, but it’s Kirk — who is averaging nearly three more yards per catch — who maintains the higher ceiling. … Christian Watson‘s usage did not suffer in Romeo Doubs’ Week 15 return. Doubs did seem to cripple Allen Lazard, who had by far his worst game of the year. Watson’s splash play potential remains strong in a likely shootout with the Dolphins. … Jerry Jeudy did just fine with Brett Rypien under center, but Russell Wilson‘s (concussion) return still represents an upgrade. Courtland Sutton (hamstring) is practicing, but we would like that as it would prevent the Rams from rolling all their resources Jeudy’s way.
Chris Olave (hamstring) seems likely to sit for the lowest totaled game of the year on Saturday. Jarvis Landry (ankle) also isn’t practicing. Although the Saints’ gaggle of tight ends will pick up most of the slack, Olave’s absence would create more Rashid Shaheed opportunities. Shaheed has matchup-flipping potential even if he sees only 3-4 looks. … As sad as it is to say, Nick Foles will probably be Michael Pittman‘s best quarterback all year. LAC/IND is a surprisingly high-totaled, domed affair in the week of the weather apocalypse. … Kenny Pickett‘s return won’t do Diontae Johnson any favors. He still has a more bankable floor than most of the wideouts behind him, including D.J. Moore. … At the epicenter of North America’s awful weekend weather, Cleveland, Ohio won’t be doing any fantasy semifinals favors for Amari Cooper or Donovan Peoples-Jones. … Drake London has cleared 70 yards in back-to-back games for the first time since Weeks 1 and 2, and 10 targets in back-to-back contests for the first time all year. It just wouldn’t be surprising if the Falcons mothballed Desmond Ridder after last week’s shockingly poor performance. The smart thing to do, of course, would be to let Ridder continue throwing as an eliminated team evaluates for 2023. … We’re happy Treylon Burks (concussion) is back, but Malik Willis’ insertion under center gives every Titans pass catcher a zero-point floor.
