The Athletic’s Jeff Howe believes Alabama QB Ty Simpson could be a good fit for the Rams.
Simpson would be a developmental project for Rams head coach Sean McVay if LA spent a draft pick on the Alabama product this spring. Howe said Simpson is considered “a high-level processor who wins before the snap, and his intangibles are through the roof. His ceiling might be as a Purdy type, though Purdy has a thicker frame and Simpson’s durability and shortage of starting experience are concerns.” Simpson, who had 3,567 yards, 28 touchdowns, and five interceptions over 15 games in 2025, is not widely considered a Week 1 starter for 2026.

NFL Insider Jordan Schultz reports that the Jets do not plan to tender restricted free agent WR John Metchie.
Metchie will officially become a free agent next week. The Jets acquired WR John Metchie and a 2027 sixth-round pick from the Eagles in exchange for CB Michael Carter and a 2027 seventh-round pick in October. Metchie, 25, has caught 73-of-115 targets for 686 yards and three touchdowns in his career. The former second-round pick will likely get an opportunity to earn a roster spot elsewhere.
TE Smith can regain fantasy value with right team
No longer part of an "ugly" fantasy situation with the Steelers, Denny Carter lays out why tight end Jonnu Smith could regain his fantasy "viability" with the right offense in 2026.
  • HOU Cornerback #24
Texans restructured CB Derek Stingley’s contract.
The Texans are one of 10 teams that Over The Cap currently lists as being in the red entering free agency. This move frees up cash, helping them become cap-compliant. Stingley will get some of his salary converted into a signing bonus that can be spread out in future seasons.
  • FA Defensive Lineman #97
    Cowboys waived DL Perrion Winfrey.
Winfrey technically entered the NFL four seasons ago, but has just three years of experience. He made the Cowboys’ 2025 roster after playing in the UFL. He appeared in just one game last season, notching two quarterback pressures in Week 16 against the Chargers.
  • FA Defensive Lineman #92
Cardinals released DL Bilal Nichols and LB Akeem Davis-Gaither.
Nichols reportedly failed his physical. He played minimally last season and failed to pressure the quarterback even once. Davis-Gaither, conversely, totaled 82 solo tackles and eight TFLs. Both figures rank second on the team.
  • NYG Wide Receiver #80
Giants signed WR Gunner Olszewski to a one-year contract extension through 2026.
Olszewski primarily plays special teams, though he sometimes contributes offensively. He notably caught 8-of-9 targets for 103 yards in the Giants’ Week 18 win over the Cowboys. The 29-year-old veteran will spend another year in New York.
  • SEA Linebacker #42
Seahawks signed LB Drake Thomas to a two-year contract extension through 2027.
Thomas was set to enter free agency next week. The deal has an $8 million base salary with a chance to make up to $9 million. Thomas, 26, has developed into a capable defender since signing on with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He totaled 62 solo tackles, eight TFLs, one interception, seven forced incompletions, 15 quarterback pressures and three sacks in the 2025 regular season.
  • FA Defensive Lineman #98
Broncos are not expected to re-sign DL John Franklin-Myers.
Franklin-Myers, 29, has been a very productive player for the Broncos over the last two seasons, ranking fourth on the team in both quarterback pressures (92) and sacks (16) during that span. Talented interior disruptors typically have decent free agent markets.
  • FA Defensive End #91
Trey Wingo reports that the Cowboys are “expected to shift their focus” to signing Trey Hendrickson.
The Cowboys were reportedly close to acquiring Raiders EDGE Maxx Crosby via trade last night, but other teams entered the bidding process at the last second. Per Wingo, offers for the Raiders’ pass rusher are “potentially” up to two first-round picks at this point. That price is apparently too high for the Cowboys. Hendrickson could be a fine consolation prize.
  • LV Defensive End #98
Trey Wingo reports that NFL teams are “potentially” offering the Raiders two first-round picks for Maxx Crosby.
The Cowboys reportedly “thought they were close” to acquiring Crosby last night, but other teams apparently bullied their way into the mix, making strong pushes to acquire the Raiders’ star pass rusher. With Crosby’s trade value rising, Wingo expects the Cowboys to focus on signing impending free agent Trey Hendrickson.
  • NO Tight End #83
Saints restructured TE Juwan Johnson, EDGE Chase Young and S Justin Reid’s contracts.
The Saints are working to become cap-compliant entering next week. Johnson earned 100 targets last year, hitting triple digits for the first time in his career. Young led the team with 49 quarterback pressures and ranked second in sacks with 10.0. Reid totaled 53 solo tackles.
