Expert Picks: The Presidents Cup

Cameron Smith

Danielle Parhizkaran-Augusta Chronicle/USA TODAY Sports

Each week this will be the one-stop resource to soak in all the picks from our fantasy staffers at Rotoworld.com.

These lineups will be entered into a large-entry Guaranteed Prize Pool. That means we need to take a risk or two, in order to separate yourselves from the field.

The idea is to provide you a list of names to consider. We would not recommend copying these teams, golfer for golfer. Duplicate teams are no fun and don’t help anyone.

DraftKings

Patrick Reed (captain - $11,700) – Perhaps he needed something extra to get him as fired up for this event as he does for the Ryder Cup. Well, he has it after Albany-gate. The Aussie locals will get on his back and Reed will love it.

Justin Thomas ($10,800) – Almost certain to be given all five starts and was top scorer in the Ryder Cup at Le Golf National. In great form and can be a leader this week.

Louis Oosthuizen ($8,800) – Owns a winning record in this event, is in great form and has a win, a second and a fifth in his three strokeplay starts in Australia. A likely contender for top International scorer.

Rickie Fowler ($7,000) – Perhaps too much is being made of his lack of recent play. Shook off some rust at the Hero and has the game to thrive on these ‘sandbelt’ tracks.

Marc Leishman ($6,200) – I want one of the three Aussie locals on board and Leishman is a local Victorian who grew up playing these type of courses.

Abraham Ancer ($5,000) – Ancer won last year’s Australian Open and helped Mexico finish runner-up in the 2018 World Cup of Golf at nearby Metropolitan. Hopefully, Captain Els will give him enough chances.

Total salary: $49,500

DraftKings

Patrick Reed (captain - $11,700) – He didn’t get the nickname (Captain America) for nothing. He was made for this format.

Matt Kuchar ($5,200) – Has a pretty sneaky good history with Royal Melbourne. Comes in a bit more under the radar but if he can find his way into 4 sessions then he’ll easily pay off here.

Rickie Fowler ($7,000)The jack of all trades, his game translates to all courses and his personality lets his pair with anyone.

Webb Simpson ($7,400) -- After pairings were released I didn’t like that three of my golfers were sitting out on day 1. I’m going to bump Fowler and replace him with Webb Simpson who is paired with my captain for opening four-ball.

Adam Scott ($9,600) – I don’t think the Americans runaway and hide and a big part of that should be Adam Scott.

Hideki Matsuyama ($9,200) – Played tremendous all summer and fall. Stayed warm with a top 10 in Japan, so he’s well adjusted to the time zone.

Cameron Smith ($6,000) – A big part of the DraftKings scoring is unlocked through volume. I think the young Aussie should play four or five sessions so I’ll give him a shot here.

Total salary: $48,700
