Merry Christmas to all who are celebrating the holiday. The NHL is taking their usual three-day break so there will be no games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The big problem right now in the NHL is the COVID outbreak which has infected so many teams, none more so than the Calgary Flames who have 16 players and 11 members of their coaching and training staff in isolation.
The Province of Ontario, which is home to the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators, have announced that arena capacity has gone down from 100 percent to 50 percent. That will have a big effect on the bottom line for both teams as well as the league as players salaries are based on 50 percent of all revenues. Hopefully, it is a short-term situation that will be resolved once the COVID numbers go down.
Enjoy the upcoming holidays!
NOTE: As of Friday afternoon, all Calgary, Colorado and Florida games have been postponed due to COVID. As of Sunday evening, the NHL and NHLPA decided that all games this week that involve any cross-border travel, will be postponed.
