Hall-of-Famer and legend Arnold Palmer has died at the age of 87.

The 62-time PGA TOUR winner was revolutionary for the game of golf, but he’ll be remembered just as much for his contributions as a human being, off the links. The King won his first TOUR event in 1955 at the Canadian Open and capped off his TOUR winning with a victory at the 1973 Bob Hope Desert Classic. That included 44 wins during his 30s. It is a sad day and Palmer will be truly missed by everyone in the golfing community.

It has been reported that the October 22-28 slot on the PGA Tour’s fall series will be held at the Arnold Palmer designed course at the Tesoro Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Sal Johnson’s Golf Buzz Blog is quoting the Golf Channel’s Tim Rosaforte that Bobby Ginn is going to take over the spot in the newly created Fall Series on the Tour. The event that week was originally going to be held in Fresno and called the Running Horse Championship, but the developer ran into money problems which left the tournament with an unbuilt course.

Arnold Palmer, age 77, says he’s done with competitive golf after Friday’s round at the Administaff Small Business Classic.

He played four holes, withdrew and then played the final 14 for the fans as a marker for Lee Trevino and John Mahaffey. “I’ve been doing this a long, long time,’’ he said after the round. “First of all, to stand out there and not be able to make something happen is very traumatic in my mind. And when the people all want to see a good shot and you know it. And you can’t give them that good shot. That’s when it’s time.’’
