Murray

Murray is spending most of his time on the Korn Ferry circuit, landing a win and third-place finish over the last month and a half. That has freed him up to alleviate some of the pressure that would normally come with going up a tier to the PGA Tour. “I’m in a good position out there to lock up my card here soon, and I felt like coming out here with an opportunity to kind of double-dip, as you could say, and play a little more free knowing that my card is pretty much locked up out there.”

Glenn Jones of NBC Boston reported on the crash and updated with the following news, “Broken kneecap said to be among Grayson Murray’s injuries from a rental scooter accident in Bermuda.” Golfweek reported that Murray was knocked unconscious and received 50 stitches, with 25 on his face. Murray also shared an Instagram story showing his scuffed up face and bandaged wrist, thanking the PGA TOUR staff for their help over the last few days. There are no confirmations on the severity of his injuries but he will likely be sidelined for the foreseeable future.

Murray is strolling through the season on past champions status only which will make starts relatively tough to come by. He posted a 4-for-12 record last season with a T13 at the Mexico Open being his lone top-60 finish. He should be removed from all weekly roster consideration but his lack of consistency probably had him off the radar to begin with.

It’s tough timing for Armour who currently sits at 153rd in the qualified FedExCup standings. He was a pre-tourney WD last week citing a pulled rib muscle. Armour will be sad to miss this week’s event at Sedgefield Country Club, a classical course where he’s landed top 25s in four of his last five trips. Gamers should remove him from all weekly lineups.

Lee lasted less than 15 holes at the Travelers Championship before exiting early with a hip injury. He was a Wednesday WD last week at the 3M Open and he’d done the same thing this week. His mid-week WDs would have you think his injury is touch-and-go. At 84th in the FedExCup race, he can also afford to wait it out until his body feels better. Lee has just seven cuts made in 21 starts this season but he remains a viable fantasy option due to his upside (three top 10s this season).

At press time, no official reason has been given for the 28-year-old’s 11th mid-tourney WD in 111 events, first since last season’s 3M Open during R2 (knee), where he was 2-over thru one hole and 4-over total. This was just his eighth event of the season, which began with two starts on a Medical Extension out of the Reshuffle Category, but failed to meet those terms after a T65/MDF at the AT&T Pebble Beach and a missed cut at The Honda Classic. The Arizona State product was subsequently demoted to Past Champion status, which he earned from his lone TOUR victory to date at the 2017 Barbasol (RTJ Trail) 86 starts ago during his rookie campaign. This week, grouped with Henrik Norlander and Scott Jamieson, he was 5-under thru his first six, playing holes 12-15 in B-B-B-E, but after the turn, gave them all back with double bogey-6 at 1, bogey-6 at 5, and double bogey-6 at 6, which concluded his short week in Kentucky.

Making his 13th career start and 12th start of the season, the 24-year-old Feagles finished three strokes behind winner Trevor Cone. His previous career-best finish was a T-21 at the Chitimacha Louisiana Open this past March. Feagles was a five-time All-Big Ten Conference First Team selection while at Illinois and also was the 2021 Les Bolstad Award winner as the conference’s scoring average leader. He finished No. 7 in the inaugural PGA Tour University presented by Velocity Global Class of 2021. Also finishing T-4 at Blue Hills was Grayson Murray, a past winner on the KFT and PGA Tour, who recorded his best finish in Tour-sanctioned event since a T-3 at the PGA Tour’s 2021 Puerto Rico Open. KFT rookies Sam Stevens and Kyle Westmoreland both finished T-7 at 10 under to record the first top-10s of their careers. Also at T-7 was Jeremy Paul, who recorded his second top-10s in his last three starts after finishing T-5 two weeks ago at the Simmons Bank Open for the Snedeker Foundation. Feagles is in the field for this week’s NV5 Invitational presented by Old National Bank, hosted by The Glen Club in Glenview, Illinois.

Murray went 6-for-22 last season to finish 191st in the FedExCup race. It was his third straight year finishing outside of the top 175. He does still have Past Champions status from winning the 2016-17 Barbasol Championship, but other than that, starts won’t be easy to find on the PGA TOUR. His last appearance was a WD at the 3M Open and he took three months away from golf after that. Murray shared his sober progress report on November 4th, “over 100 days for me! feeling like a kid again.” He also made the move from Raleigh to Jupiter to start fresh. Murray has a win and five other top 10s in 103 career PGA TOUR starts so gamers should keep a close eye on how his game looks whenever he returns to action.

Murray opened his week with a 2-over 73 where he landed just 11 GIR and lost 2.5 strokes around-the-green. His second round started at the par-4 10th and he three-jacked from inside of five feet to swallow a double bogey. He was 4-over for the week at that point and called it quits from there which is not uncommon for Murray who now has 10 mid-tournament WDs in just 103 career starts on the PGA TOUR.

Murray started his morning on the 10th tee and traded four bogeys with one birdie before exiting the course. His final hole played was the par-4 4th where he stuffed a wedge but missed the birdie look from inside of three feet. Murray started the week at 181st in the FedExCup race so he has a lot of work to do if he wants to crack the top-125 Playoffs mark. Mid-week WDs are nothing new for Murray who now has nine mid-tournament WDs in 101 career starts on the PGA TOUR.
