University of Oklahoma to Host 09 Publinx

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The 2009 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship will be played at the Jimmie Austin University of Oklahoma Golf Course in Norman, the United States Golf Association announced Thursday.

It will mark the first time the 84-year-old event has been held on a university golf course and also the first time it’s played in Oklahoma. The winner receives an invitation to play in the Masters.

‘It’ll be great exposure for us, the campus, the community,’ said Stan Ball, the course’s director of golf. ‘It’ll hopefully lift us into a different league.’

Ball said few changes are expected to the 7,197-yard, par-72 course for its first USGA championship. Officials came to Norman in July 2004 and toured the community and the course, which has 89 bunkers and provides a variety of difficult holes.
