Knost (65) recharged after break to rest thumb

IRVING, Texas – Just five weeks ago, Colt Knost thought his season was over.

After a tie for 14th at the RBC Heritage, Knost was informed that his ailing left thumb was more serious then he originally thought and could require surgery.

When he returned home to Scottsdale, Ariz., an MRI revealed it was a small cyst that was causing the discomfort and that he only needed rest, not surgery.

“Probably the best thing that could have happened, taking two weeks off, refreshed and honestly came back out and played pretty good at Charlotte (T-41 at the Wells Fargo Championship), a terrible golf course for me,” Knost said.

Knost followed that finish with a tie for third at The Players last week and posted his second consecutive top-10 on Sunday at the AT&T Byron Nelson with a closing 65.

Even more encouraging for Knost is his play heading into next week’s Dean & Deluca Invitational at Colonial, which he says is among his favorite golf courses on the PGA Tour.

“I have a lot of confidence right now and kind of want to keep carrying it over and give myself a good chance at Colonial next week,” he said.
