Catherine O’Donnell shot a 2-under-par 70 Saturday to take the lead heading into Sunday’s final round of the Symetra Tour Championship at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.
At 13 under overall, she is three shots ahead of Brianna Do (67), Cydney Clanton (73) and Su Oh (74).
The top 10 on the final Symetra money list at the conclusion of Sunday’s play will earn LPGA promotions for 2016. Only players within the top 23 on the Volvik Race of the Card money list coming into the event were mathematically still eligible to make the top 10.
Do made a big move Saturday at winning an LPGA tour card. She’s 12th on the money list and needs only to finish 31st or better at LPGA International to have a chance to move up next year.
“Same gameplan,” Do told LPGA media after her round. “It’s pedal to the metal. If I don’t get it done here I’d have to go to Q-School, and I don’t want to do that, so I’m going to just keep my foot on that pedal.”
Maude Aimee-Leblanc and Lindy Duncan are also positioned to make Sunday runs at moving into the top 10 on the money list. Leblanc shot a 71 Saturday and is tied for eighth. She’s 15th on the money list and needs a finish of fourth or better at LPGA International to have a chance at winning an LPGA tour card. Duncan shot 72 and is also tied for eighth. Duncan is 13th on the money list and needs a finish of 18th or better for a shot at a tour card.
O’Donnell, Clanton and Oh are outside the top 23 on the money list.
