GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The top-ranked Duke women’s golf team maintained its lead at the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational on Monday and heads into the final round with a 20-stroke lead at the Par 70, 5,773-yard University of Florida Golf Club. The Blue Devils are in search of their seventh straight victory in 2003-04.
‘The high scores are not indicative of the way we have played the last two days,’ said Duke head coach Dan Brooks. ‘We have been playing pretty well, but the greens are new and are very hard. It is very tough to stop the balls on the green so there has been a lot of chipping off the green.’
Duke owns an 36-hole total of 588 with Ohio State (608), Michigan State (616), Florida (617) and Tennessee (620) rounding out the top five.
Blue Devil freshmen Anna Grzebien and Brittany Lang are currently leading the individual action with a two-day total of 145, which is five-over-par. Grzebien collected a 71 on Monday, while Lang added a 73. The Duke duo lead Michigan State’s Allison Fouch by three strokes.
Liz Janangelo posted a 74 on day two and is tied for third (147) and senior Virada Nirapathpongporn had a 77, which makes her tied for eighth (151). Leigh Anne Hardin struggled with an 80 on Monday and is tied for 29th (157). Playing as an individual, junior Niloufar Aazam-Zanganeh is tied for 59th with a 162 after carding an 83.
