For the eighth straight year, the Duke women’s golf team won the team title at the Franklin Street Partners Invitational on Sunday as the Blue Devils carded a three-day total of 865 to win by nine strokes at the 6,285-yard, Par 72 Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Rounding out the nine teams is Auburn (874), Texas (893), N.C. State (900), Wake Forest (900), North Carolina (930), South Carolina (933), Texas A&M (936) and Florida State (937).
‘We had a good tournament,’ said Duke Head Coach Dan Brooks. ‘We had a little bit of sickness going on and I am very proud of the players who played sick this weekend. It is tough to walk around the golf course for five hours when you don’t feel good. I don’t think we played a day that everyone was feeling good. That being the case I am very happy with the way we battled to win the tournament.’
Leading the Blue Devils was sophomore Brittany Lang, who carded a final round 71 to finish second overall with a three-day total of 213. A McKinney, Texas native, Lang posted three birdies on the day and collected her second top-five finish of the season.
After winning the Franklin Street Partners Invitational the last two years, junior Liz Janangelo couldn’t get any breaks on Sunday as she finished with a 74. Overall, the West Hartford, Conn., product finished third with a 214, after leading going into the final round.
Turning in her best round as a collegiate golfer, freshman Jennifer Pandolfi fired a 71 to finish tied for ninth, overall, with a 221. Pandolfi, a Navarre, Fla., product, collected three birdies on the day, which tied for a team-best. After posting a three-under-par, 69, on Saturday sophomore Anna Grzebien struggled on Sunday and posted a 77. Overall, she finished tied for seventh for the tournament with a total of 220.
Senior Niloufar Aazam-Zanganeh notched her second straight round of 77 on day three and finished tied for 16th with a 227.
