History made with Donald, Westwood both missing cut

SANDWICH, England – History was made on Friday at the Open Championship.

When Luke Donald and Lee Westwood both failed to reach the weekend, it marked the first time in the 26-year history of the Official World Golf Ranking that each of the two top-ranked players missed the cut at the same major championship.

Two years ago, top-ranked Tiger Woods missed the cut at Royal Birkdale while No. 2 Phil Mickelson skipped the tournament. That was the only other time that at least one of the top two players didn’t play in the final two rounds of a major since 1986.

Donald posted a second-round 75 and Westwood shot 73 as each finished shy of the 3-over-par cutline.
