Cantigny to Host 2007 US Public Links

FAR HILLS, N.J. -- Cantigny Golf Club in Wheaton, Ill., was tabbed to host the 2007 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, the United States Golf Association announced on Tuesday.

Cantigny’s 27-hole facility was opened in 1989 with the Hillside, Lakeside and Woodside nines and the 2007 USGA event is scheduled for July 9-14.

‘We are very pleased to have been selected to host the 2007 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship,’ said Jim Sutherland, executive director of the Cantigny Foundation, which operates the course. ‘Preparing to host a national championship is an exciting challenge and privilege. We appreciate this opportunity. Cantigny will be a demanding and fair test.’

Cantigny hosted the 2002 Illinois State Amateur Championship, U.S. Amateur qualifying in 1997, U.S. Open local qualifying in 2000 and U.S. Open sectional qualifying in 2001.

Prior to the 2007 event, the Amateur Public Links Championship will be held at Rush Creek Golf Course in Maple Grove, Minn., from July 12-17, 2004, Shaker Run Golf Club in Lebanon, Ohio, from July 11-16, 2005, and at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash., from July 10-15, 2006.

The Amateur Public Links Championship is open to amateur golfers who do not hold playing privileges at a private golf club for that Championship’s calendar year and have a Handicap Index not exceeding 8.4.
