Celebrities Tee off on Champions Tour

The Champions Tour invades Missouri this week for the 18th annual Bayer Advantage Celebrity Pro-Am. For the second year in a row, the event is featuring a unique format, allowing celebrities to pair with Champions Tour pros in a team competition Friday and Saturday, while the pros also play individually Friday through Sunday.

Some of the celebs in the field are: Baseball hall of famer and tournament chairman George Brett, fellow hall of famer Reggie Jackson, former Kansas City Chiefs’ standout Deron Cherry, former Kansas City Royals’ relief ace Jeff Montgomery, former 1984 National League Cy Young Award winner Rick Sutcliffe, actor Kevin Sorbo, former major league umpire Steve Palermo and amateur golf stars Nick Flanagan and Alina Lee. Flanagan was the 2003 U.S. Amateur champion.

A combination of 74 celebrities and amateurs will tee off with Champions Tour professionals on Friday and Saturday, and the field will be trimmed to the low 14 amateur/celebrities for play on Sunday.

Also for the second straight year, the National Golf Club of Kansas City will play host to this event.

The Champions Tour’s next stop will be the Bank of America Championship at the Nashawtuc Country Club in Concord, Massachusetts in two weeks. Allen Doyle is the defending champion of the event.
