Jenkins Leads as Play Called in NY

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. -- The Champions Tour got back on track for a day, then was derailed again by rain.

The second round of the Commerce Bank Championship was suspended Saturday due to inclement weather, which caused a pair of delays before officials finally cancelled the round in the late afternoon.

Play is scheduled to resume at 7:30 a.m. local time Sunday, with the third round following at 10 a.m. off split tees.

Bad weather is in the forecast for Sunday as well, with showers and thunderstorms predicted for the morning and steady rain for the afternoon. The Weather Channel said as much as one inch of rainfall is expected.

Of course, the seniors are used to delays.

Two weeks ago, the Bank of America Championship was completely washed out -- the fairways looking more like ponds than fairways. Last week, the tour was off while some players competed in the U.S. Open.

Tom Jenkins is 10 under par through 16 holes in his second round and leads by one shot over Tom Wargo, who is at 9 under through 12 holes.

First-round leader Allen Doyle was just even-par through 11 holes on Saturday. He currently shares third place with David Eger, Jay Haas and Bruce Fleisher.

Eger is the clubhouse leader at minus-7 after finishing a round of 6-under-par 65. Haas is looking to win in four consecutive Champions Tour starts, one week after making the U.S. Open cut and setting an all-time record for most cuts made on the PGA TOUR.

Defending champion Ron Streck is seven strokes off the current pace, knotted in 22nd place at 3 under through 15 holes of his second round.
