Points Moves in Front

MOOSIC, Penn. -- D.A. Points posted a 5-under 66 on Friday to take the clubhouse lead during the second round of the Northeast Pennsylvania Classic. He stands at 9-under-par 133 and leads by two over Ben Bates.

The second round was suspended for darkness after there were two weather stoppages. The golfers will return to Glenmaura National Golf Club at 7:30 a.m. (ET) Saturday morning to complete the second round.

Bates fired a 6-under 65 and is through 36 holes at 7-under-par 135. Boo Weekley is 7 under through seven holes while Nathan Green is minus-7 through five holes.

Points tallied only one birdie on the front nine but recorded three in his first five holes of the second nine. At the 16th, Points pulled his tee shot into the water and took his only bogey of the round.

Points reclaimed the lost stroke at the 17th when his 8-iron stopped 3 feet from the hole. He was on the way to the 18th tee when the first wave of thunderstorms halted play.

‘We probably would’ve gotten the round in if I hadn’t hit in the water on 16 and spent five minutes trying to locate it,’ said Points. ‘It all worked out though.’

After the 80-minute weather delay, Points knocked his wedge approach at 18 within three feet to set up birdie and go two clear of the field.

‘It was much more solid this round than the first one when I made everything I looked at and had a couple of bad holes,’ said Points, who was the runner-up last week at the LaSalle Bank Open. ‘I started swinging better on the back nine.’

Jimmy Walker, who has two wins this season and can advance to the PGA Tour with another victory, shot a 4-under 67 and is tied for fifth place with Shane Bertsch, who carded a 1-under 70. The duo is knotted at 6-under-par 136. Darron Stiles, the first-round leader, is 6 under par through nine holes.
