Known for his bombing drives, Nicolas Colsaerts hit one tee shot Saturday that resulted in a drop from inside a restroom. Wait...what?
Here’s the setup: pitted against Graeme McDowell in the quarterfinals of the Volvo World Match Play Championship in Bulgaria, the Belgian knocked his tee shot over the rest area and into a lateral hazard. After conferring with a rules official, a determination was made that the nearest point of relief was – you guessed it – inside the confines of the bathroom lining the hole.
Despite the unusual drop, Colsaerts kept his composure and, after taking relief from within the restroom, hit his third shot onto the green at the par-4 and went on to hole a putt for par. Despite the impressive par save, the Belgian was no match for McDowell Saturday, as the former U.S. Open champion advanced, 2 and 1, to meet Branden Grace in the semifinals. It was a bit of revenge for the Ulsterman, who had lost to Colsaerts in this event in both 2011 and 2012.
