With an opening round of 5-under 67, world No. 3 Lee Westwood leads the 76th Masters by a shot after Thursday’s first round.

The Englishman is one stroke clear of 2010 British Open winner Louis Oosthuizen, whose 68 included playing the final five holes in 4 under, and Peter Hanson.

Six players are tied for third at 3 under: Paul Lawrie, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Francesco Molinari, Ben Crane, Bubba Watson and Jason Dufner.

In his quest for a fifth green jacket, Tiger Woods finished his round with a whimper. Opening with even-par 72, Woods closed with consecutive bogeys. Woods struggled with a big miss to the left, leading to penalty strokes for unplayable lies at the second and 18th holes.

Despite an opening double bogey, Rory McIlroy finished at 1 under.

Phil Mickelson, who had a lost drive and a triple bogey at the par-4 10th hole, birdied the last to salvage a 2-over round.

World No. 1 Luke Donald finished with a 3-over 75, but was the subject of controversy when it was believed the Englishman had signed for an incorrect score on the fifth hole. The situation was resolved, however, and Donald was exonerated.
