Good news for Lorena Ochoa fans.
No, she’s not returning to the LPGA, but she will be putting her skills back in play to help the cast in ‘Big Break Mexico’, the newest season in the Golf Channel reality series. The first episode is scheduled to air May 13 with six men and six women in a mixed-team competition at the Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club in Riviera Maya.
Ochoa guest stars to provide “mulligans” when called upon in one of the show’s key challenges.
“The challenge was pretty tough,” Ochoa said. “Feeling the emotion and adrenaline was nice again.”
Ochoa says she has no plans to return to the LPGA anytime soon with her family responsibilities growing since the birth of her first child, Pedro, who is 14 months old. She says she isn’t likely to play the LPGA event she hosts this year, the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in November. And in case you’re wondering, she isn’t tempted to return to play the Old Course at St. Andrews with the Ricoh Women’s British Open returning there this summer. Ochoa claimed a historic title winning the first women’s major played on the Old Course in ’07.
Ochoa’s dream now is an even larger family. She wants another baby.
“Pedro’s doing well,” Ochoa said. “He just started walking a couple weeks ago. He’s a very happy boy, and I’m doing great, just enjoying this part of my life. And we want to have another baby. That would be great, for Pedro to have a little brother or sister to play with. We’ll see.”
Ochoa’s involvement in ‘Big Break Mexico’ goes beyond helping in one of the challenges. The mixed-team competition will narrow down to a battle for an individual title. The winner will earn a spot into a PGA Tour or LPGA event. If a woman prevails, she will get a sponsor exemption into Ochoa’s LPGA event. If a man wins, he will get a sponsor exemption into the OHL Classic at Mayakoba.
