Keegan Bradley made headlines with his course-record 60 at the HP Byron Nelson Championship, but he wasn’t the only pro going low Thursday.
Playing a recreational round at La Cumbre CC in Santa Barbara, Calif., Nick Watney posted a 12-under 59 that bettered the course record by three strokes.
Watney carded three eagles and six birdies during the round without a single bogey. Each of those eagles came on a par-5 hole, as he played the four par 5s in 7 under.
His lowest PGA Tour round this season was an opening-round 65 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. His career-low 62 came in the third round of the 2011 AT&T National, which he won the next day.
La Cumbre hosted last year’s California State Amateur Championship.
