BETHESDA, Md. – Less than eight months away from being eligible for the Champions Tour, 49-year-old Vijay Singh showed the young guns on the PGA Tour how to handle the heat at Congressional C.C. Singh shot 3-under 68 to open the AT&T National, taking the lead after the morning wave on Thursday.
‘It’s good for me,’ he said. ‘Any time I shoot under par right now is good. I played well. I’ve been playing well for the last month or so but nothing is coming out of it.’
Singh was 4 under after chipping in for birdie on the par-3 10th, but struggled thereafter.
‘I thought I was going to go out and really shoot a low one, and then I bogeyed three in a row after that,’ he said. ‘You’ve got to be patient. You’ve got to keep calm out there.’
Despite not going as low as he hoped on the 11th tee, Singh is satisfied.
‘If you would have given me 3 under at the beginning of the day,’ he said, ‘I would say, yeah, I’ll take it.’
