Tseng struggles on Day 1 of Wegmans LPGA

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Yani Tseng struggled to find fairways.

She struggled to make putts.

Six bogeys hurt her more than the pain in her left forearm as she shot an opening round 4-over-par 76 Thursday in her title defense at the Wegmans LPGA Championship. It equaled her worst round this year.

Tseng experienced tightness in the arm on the range before her afternoon tee time. She had a trainer work on it before starting her round and said she felt fine through the round.

“That was not the problem with my score,” Tseng said. “I was very disappointed because I love this golf course.”

Tseng hit just six fairways, just 10 greens in regulation. And she took30 putts.

A year ago, Tseng won at Locust Hill in a 10-shot runaway. She said good memories may work for her in a second-round rebound.

“I played to 19 under last year,” Tseng said. “I know I can go low here.’
