Giants designated first baseman Chad Santos for assignment.
Santos was up for a week before Shea Hillenbrand was acquired last month. It might be the 25-year-old only ever stint in the majors.

Giants purchased the contract of first baseman Chad Santos from Triple-A Fresno.
Can’t hit. The 25-year-old Santos was batting .263/.309/.435 with a 78/21 K/BB ratio in 315 at-bats for Fresno. Although we’re as low on Lance Niekro as anyone, Santos is a clear downgrade at first base. The Giants may give him a week or two as a regular, but little should be expected. Mark Sweeney is a far better player, and the club needs to be looking elsewhere for help.

Giants optioned first baseman Chad Santos to Triple-A Fresno.
Santos loses his roster spot to Shea Hillenbrand. He was 3-for-7 with a homer in his six days with the club.
