Reds signed RHP Clayton Blackburn to a minor league contract.
It’s not yet known whether or not the deal includes an invite to big league camp. Blackburn missed the entire 2018 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, and elected free agency after the Rangers sent him outright to Triple-A in early November.

Giants RHP prospect Clayton Blackburn spun seven shutout innings Monday in a win for Triple-A Sacramento.
He tallied five strikeouts while holding visiting Salt Lake to three hits and one walk. The victory snapped a five-game winless streak for Blackburn, who is now 6-7 with a 4.53 ERA over 20 outings this season. The 23-year-old earned his first call-up to the majors earlier this year but didn’t appear in any games. He’s been with the Giants’ organization since 2011 when he was drafted in the 16th round out of Edmond Santa Fe High School in Oklahoma.

Giants optioned RHP Clayton Blackburn to Triple-A Sacramento.
The right-hander was considered a long shot to crack the Opening Day bullpen, so his demotion doesn’t come as a big surprise. He should get an opportunity with the big league club at some point during the 2017 season.

Clayton Blackburn yielded three hits but no runs over three innings in Saturday’s Cactus League contest with the Royals.
Blackburn might have coughed up three hits and walked a batter, but he also struck out three in the scoreless outing. The 24-year-old right-hander has spent each of the past two seasons at Triple-A Sacramento. In 2016, he put up a 4.36 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 101/35 K/BB ratio over 136 1/3 innings. Given that the Giants did call him up a year ago (he did not enter a game), he could see additional major league time this coming season.

Blackburn struggled in his first start this season with Triple-A Sacramento, but the 24-year-old right-hander owns a promising 3.30 ERA and 1.155 career WHIP in 658 career minor league innings. He could immediately fit into a number of MLB rotations.

The Giants have yet to announce a corresponding roster move, though it’s likely the team will place Angel Pagan (hamstring) on the disabled list. This marks Blackburn’s first stint in the big leagues. The right-hander owns a 5.68 ERA across seven outings (six starts) for Sacramento this season.

Giants optioned OF Jarrett Parker to Triple-A Sacramento.
The Giants needed to clear a roster spot for Clayton Blackburn. Parker’s demotion shows that Angel Pagan is ready to return from a hamstring injury. Parker went 1-for-4 during his short stint with the Giants.
