Pirates claimed LHP Juan Perez off waivers from the Mets.
We’re still hoping for a Victor Diaz claim. Perez was let go a day earlier to make room for Guillermo Mota on the roster. The 27-year-old left-hander had a 2.86 ERA and a 55/34 K/BB ratio in 63 innings of relief for Triple-A Norfolk. It’s possible that he’d be a useful specialist if he received the chance. He’ll be remain in Triple-A for now.

Pirates recalled LHP Juan Perez from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Rather than put in a claim on Victor Diaz earlier this month, the Pirates decided to take Perez, the other player the Mets removed from their 40-man roster. The 28-year-old ended up with a 2.57 ERA and a 61/37 K/BB ratio in 70 innings as a reliever in Triple-A this year. He might have a chance of making it as a specialist.

Juan Perez was hospitalized Sunday morning with a partially collapsed left lung.
Perez was in consideration for the bullpen as a non-roster invitee, but is now looking at missing extended time this spring. “It’s a tough break for him,” manager Ron Roenicke said. “He was throwing the ball great. You always feel for the guy when he’s doing that well and he’s got a chance and then something happens.”

Juan Perez is still in the hospital, recovering from a partially collapsed left lung.
Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said Tuesday that he’s not sure when Perez will be able to resume throwing. The lefty seems unlikely to crack the Brewers’ Opening Day roster, no matter how quickly he’s able to recover.

Juan Perez threw a bullpen session Monday for the first time since being hospitalized for a collapsed lung two weeks ago.
“He threw a bullpen [Monday] -- it went real well, and he’s accelerating fast,” said Brewers manager Ron Roenicke. “He had a smile on his face and he felt good.” Perez, a non-roster invitee, is scheduled to throw another side session Thursday and Roenicke said it’s still “to be determined” whether the 33-year-old southpaw has a chance at making the Opening Day roster.

Brewers signed LHP Juan Perez to a minor league contract.
The deal includes a spring training invite. Perez, 33, made eight appearances with the Phillies this past season, but spent the majority of the year with Triple-A Lehigh Valley, posting a 5.70 ERA and 53/25 K/BB ratio over 36 1/3 innings. He’ll likely function as organizational depth.
