Matt DeSalvo allowed two runs -- one earned -- in 5 1/3 innings to win Saturday in his first start since being demoted to Double-A.
DeSalvo, 25, was 1-6 with a 7.68 ERA, 47 H and 30/34 K/BB in 38 2/3 IP for Triple-A Columbus, destroying what trade value he might have had for the Yankees. A very successful pitcher in Double-A last year, he entered the year as a potential bottom-of-the-rotation starter.

Yankees optioned RHP Matt DeSalvo to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
DeSalvo had a 5.40 ERA and a 6/15 K/BB ratio in 21 2/3 innings. It figues to be a long time before he sees the majors again.

Matt DeSalvo is expected to be recalled to start one of next Saturday’s double-header games.
“Right now Matty DeSalvo is pitching the best by far at Triple-A. If we have a need at the major league level, Matty DeSalvo is that need right now,’' general manager Brian Cashman said. DeSalvo was 1-2 with a 5.87 ERA during five starts for the Yankees earlier this year.

The Yankees are leaning towards starting Tyler Clippard over Matt DeSalvo against the Angels on Friday.
If Roger Clemens makes just one more minor league start, then DeSalvo might not be needed as a starter again. He’ll work out of the pen for now.

Matt DeSalvo will be brought up Monday to get the start that was supposed to go to Roger Clemens.
DeSalvo will be eligible to return because Doug Mientkiewicz is going on the DL. It’s a decent matchup for him against a struggling White Sox offense heavy with right-handed hitters. However, he’s still a lousy play in AL-only leagues.

Yankees recalled RHP Matt DeSalvo from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
DeSalvo will start versus the White Sox tonight and then likely return to the minors to open up a spot for Andy Phillips.

Matt DeSalvo was pulled after getting just four outs versus the White Sox on Monday night. He allowed three runs -- two earned -- before being replaced by Ron Villone.
A Josh Phelps error hastened DeSalvo’s departure, but he wasn’t going to last anyway. He belongs in Triple-A, and he’ll probably head back there prior to Tuesday’s game.

Yankees optioned Matt DeSalvo to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Newsday is reporting that it’s likely to be Chris Barak, not Andy Phillips, called up from Scranton as DeSalvo’s replacement. That suggests that Johnny Damon may see action at first base sooner than expected.

Matt DeSalvo, who was charged with three runs without retiring a batter in a relief appearance Friday, is scheduled to start Monday’s game.
Tyler Clippard will go again Wednesday. DeSalvo’s performance Monday will determine whether he has a chance of sticking around when it’s time to create room for Roger Clemens on the roster.

Manager Joe Torre said Tuesday that Matt DeSalvo will be called up from Triple-A to start in Saturday’s doubleheader.
Kei Igawa will start the other game against Tampa Bay, so it could be a rough day for the Yankees.
