Andres Torres hopes to play in Game 1 on Wednesday

Andres Torres

Andres Torres injured his left hip and upper groin area while legging out a bunt single in the top of the ninth inning last night, but hopes to be available to play in Game 1 of the World Series against the Rangers on Wednesday night, reports Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News.

Torres suffered the injury when he needlessly dove headfirst into the first base bag. He remained in the game at first, but was replaced by Aaron Rowand in center field for the bottom of the ninth inning.

Funnily enough, Giants manager Bruce Bochy later admitted that he didn’t even know Torres was coming out of the game. Team trainer Dave Groeschner made that call.

Torres struggled in the early part of the postseason, but went 6-for-10 with two walks and two runs scored over the final three games of the NLCS.
