Bartolo Colon’s new contract with the Mets includes Silver Slugger Award incentive

The Mets officially announced Bartolo Colon’s new one-year, $7.25 million contract yesterday. CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman provided some details of his contract this afternoon, which includes an interesting incentive based on his hitting prowess.

After being embarrassed by going just 2-for-62 (.032) during his first season with the Mets in 2014, the 42-year-old worked hard to improve last winter and batted a respectable .138/.150/.155 in 64 plate appearances this past season. He set new career-highs with eight hits and four RBI. Just imagine what improvements could be in store for 2016. Underestimate him at your own peril, people.
