Bruce Levine of CBS Chicago reports that the Blue Jays have claimed outfielder Junior Lake off waivers from the Orioles. He had been designated for assignment on December 10 to create room on the Orioles’ 40-man roster.
Lake, 25, has struggled over parts of three seasons in the majors as he has mustered a .237/.278/.377 batting line with 52 extra-base hits, 16 RBI, 60 runs scored, and 15 stolen bases in 664 plate appearances. The Cubs traded him to the Orioles at the trade deadline in exchange for pitcher Tommy Hunter.
Lake will be under team control through 2019, so the Jays are hoping he is able to make a breakthrough at some point.
