Per Jon Morosi, the Blue Jays have picked up the $8 million 2019 club option for first baseman Justin Smoak.

This comes as no surprise as Smoak has been excellent the last two seasons for the Blue Jays. In 2018, he hit .242/.350/.457 with 25 home runs, 77 RBI, and 67 runs scored in 594 plate appearances. He’s also a finalist for the Gold Glove Award.

Smoak, who turns 32 years old in December, can become a free agent after the 2019 season, so he will likely only be in Toronto for one more year.
