Brad Ausmus is coming back to manage the Tigers in 2017

The Detroit Tigers have exercised their 2017 option on manager Brad Ausmus. Baseball’s second most handsome manager will be back in the dugout next season.

The Tigers fell short of he playoffs for the second straight season in 2016, but they did improve by 12 games, finishing at 86-75, just out of the Wild Card running. Better overall team health had a lot to do with that as did the resurgence of Justin Verlander and the emergence of rookie starter Michael Fulmer. Overall, Ausmus is 250-234 in his three seasons at the helm.

The Tigers did not, however, extend Ausmus’ contracts, meaning that he will be a lame duck in 2017. And, presumably, meaning that the club will have a very short leash on him. A slow start next spring could very well mean Ausmus gets canned.
