Brett Anderson to begin mound work next week

Brett Anderson made only eight starts in 2014 for the Rockies and needed surgery in August to repair a herniated disk in his back, but the 26-year-old lefty still managed to score a one-year, $10 million deal this winter from the Dodgers. And he’s on track to be fully ready for the beginning of the 2015 season.

J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News writes Wednesday that Anderson has increased his flat-ground work to a distance of 160 feet and is aiming to step atop a mound next week in Arizona.

“I feel good,” Anderson told Hoornstra and some other Dodgers beat writers on a conference call Wednesday afternoon. “I’ve been throwing with Max Scherzer and some other guys at Fischer Sports (a physical therapy institute in the Phoenix area). I should be good to go come spring training.”

Anderson owns a cool 3.73 career ERA (112 ERA+), but he hasn’t topped 100 innings since 2010.
