Check out the new turf at Rogers Centre

Rogers Centre turf

While natural grass and a dirt infield would be the ideal situation for the players and simply look better aesthetically for fans, Rogers Centre has installed new artificial turf in advance of the 2015 season. Check it out, via Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca:

John Lott of the Toronto Post wrote earlier this month that the Blue Jays are expected to play on this new “softer” surface through 2017. The hope is that they’ll finally have natural grass and a dirt infield in place for the 2018 season, but they need major renovations “to accommodate irrigation, drainage and ventilation.” If you have ever wondered why they haven’t been able to do it already, read this. Not so easy.
