Carroll Rogers of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Chipper Jones underwent successful arthroscopic surgery to repair the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee Saturday, according to his agent B.B. Abbott.
The two-hour procedure was performed by Dr. Marvin Royster, the same surgeon who previously repaired the torn ACL in Jones’ knee when he missed the entire 1994 season. According to Rogers, they used a graft from the heel of a cadaver as part of today’s surgery.
Rehab from the surgery is expected to take around six months. During a press conference Friday, Jones announced that he will rehab with the intention of playing again in 2011.
The 38-year-old third baseman is under contract for $13 million for each of the next two seasons.
