Per Evan Drellich of NBC Sports Boston, the Red Sox announced that starter Chris Sale was admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital on Sunday due to a stomach illness. He is being kept overnight for observation.

Sale, 29, started Game 1 of the ALCS for the Red Sox against the Astros on Saturday. He lasted four innings, relenting a pair of runs on one hit and four walks with five strikeouts. It isn’t clear if Sale began experiencing symptoms during last night’s start or if they began on Tuesday.

Assuming he doesn’t get pushed back in the rotation, Sale would be on target to start Game 5 of the ALCS (if necessary), which would take place on Thursday in Houston.
