Phillies lefty Cole Hamels was lifted from his Thursday afternoon start against Boston after taking an Adrian Gonzalez line drive off his right fingers.
The Phillies called that early exit “precautionary” and insisted that Hamels wouldn’t miss any time.
They were right.
According to Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Hamels was deemed fit to make his scheduled Tuesday start against the Marlins after throwing a clean bullpen session Sunday morning in Toronto. He was able to catch return throws with his gloved right hand without feeling too much pain and should have no restrictions when he steps atop the mound early next week against Florida.
Hamels, 27, has a fantastic 2.41 ERA, 110/21 K/BB ratio and 0.94 WHIP through 17 starts this season for Philadelphia. He was named an All-Star for the second time in his career on Sunday afternoon.
