David Ortiz, Kevin Gregg drop their appeals
In an utterly not unexpected move, both David Ortiz and Kevin Gregg dropped their suspensions arising out of their actions during the last series between the Red Sox and Orioles. Each suspension was reduced from four games to three and their fines --- originally $2,500 -- were reduced as well.
Conveniently enough, today marks the beginning of another Red Sox-Orioles series, so the absence of the primary combatants will likely mean a lower likelihood of retribution, misguided or otherwise.
On Friday Ortiz said he was going to see his appeal all the way through. My guess is that was just talk, borne of baseball frowning upon guys making it painfully obvious that they do things like appeal their suspension while playing the Rays, and then serve it while playing the Orioles. But that’s what happens all the time anyway, and it appears to be happening here.
