David Wright cleared to begin baseball-related workouts
According to David Lennon of New York’s Newsday, Mets third baseman David Wright was cleared to resume baseball activities after a promising checkup Thursday with a back specialist.
Wright has been on the disabled list with a stress fracture in his lower back since mid-May.
If everything goes smoothly in his workouts and subsequent minor league rehab assignment, he could return to the Mets before the All-Star break.
Wright was batting just .226/.337/.404 with six homers and 18 RBI in 39 games before suffering the injury, but he is certainly capable of righting a lot of this season’s early wrongs with a strong second half. Justin Turner has been filling in at the hot corner for the surprising 37-38 Mets.
