Nationals center fielder Denard Span, who missed the first three weeks of the season following core muscle surgery in March, left Thursday’s game with abdominal soreness.
Washington had already called up Span’s early season fill-in, prospect Michael Taylor, from Triple-A, so he took over in center field again.
James Wagner of the Washington Post notes that because Span has had two core muscle surgeries “any slight discomfort in that area now raises some red flags” but for now the Nationals are hoping it’s just normal soreness from playing 10 of 11 games since coming off the disabled list.
